Police crack down on illegal pharmacies in Mombasa

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (KPPB) has arrested 68 individuals found operating illegal pharmacies at the coast.

During a crackdown targeting illegal pharmacies in an effort to safeguard the health sector in the country, officers also confiscated an assortment of drugs from the unregistered pharmacies.

Speaking to journalists in Mombasa County before two separate operations that were conducted in Likoni and Kisauni, senior inspector of drugs, Julius Kulai, said that most of those arrested were not registered by the board and had no qualifications in handling drugs.

KPPB and police also raided Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa and Lamu where they shut down unregistered pharmacies and confiscated drugs after owners failed to produce required documents.
