Police denies killing wife and daughter

The police officer accused of shooting dead his wife and five-year-old daughter has denied the murder charges.

Cosmas Biwott Kipchumba who appeared before Justice Maureen Odero took the plea after a psychiatric report presented in court revealed that he was fit to stand trial.

The officer who was attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, Nakuru camp, was charged that on February 28 at Suswa area, Subukia, Nakuru County, he killed Shantel Nyambura aged 5 and Jane Njoki aged 26, charges he denied.

Through his lawyer Juma Nyagaka, Biwott sought to be released on lenient bond terms saying that the charges before him are not true and he is not a flight risk.

Kipchumba was arrested at his rural home in Nandi by homicide detectives.

Prosecution, led by state counsel Jackson Motende did not object Kipchumba’s prayer to be released on bond saying that they have completed investigations.

Justice Maureen Odero released the accused on a Ksh.500,000 bond.

The case will be heard on May 23, 2018.
