Police destroy illicit brew, bhang worth Ksh 1.5M

Police in Kisumu have destroyed 9,216 litres of illicit brew and bhang worth Ksh 1.5 million.

Kisumu County Commissioner John Elungata and his Kisumu East Sub County Commissioner Ole Tutui presided over the burning of the bhang and the destruction of the illicit brew at the sub county offices.

Among the illicit brews destroyed were 216 litres of coffee spirit, 3,000 litres of empire spirit, 6,000 litres of Simba Waregi, all valued at Ksh 1 million.

A total of 196 rolls of bhang and seven stones, all valued at Ksh 500,000 were also destroyed as curious members of the public watched.

The illicit liquor is believed to have originated from Uganda while the bhang was from Migori County.

Elungata says the illegal substances were impounded by APs Quick Response Team at the Kisumu Bus Park while being transported to various destinations.

He said the police were acting on a tip-off from the public that saw three ladies and 50 consumers arrested on Thursday.
