Police disperse Meru protesters blocking Munya from using road

Police in Nkubu, Meru County have dispersed a group of protesters who are opposed to Governor Peter Munya’s tour in the area scheduled for Saturday, June 10 afternoon.

The protesters had blocked the Meru-Nkubu road using stones and bonfires ahead of Munya’s visit in the area where he is scheduled to address a campaign rally for his re-election at Nkubu Stadium.

Anti-riot police officers have been deployed in the area to contain the situation.

Central Imenti OCPD, Boniface Lisiolo, said police are probing the incident to ascertain if politicians are behind the protest.

Munya, who is vying on a PNU ticket, is facing stiff competition in the August 8 polls from Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi of Jubilee Party.
