Police gun down three gangsters in Nairobi

Police in Nairobi on Tuesday evening shot dead three most wanted suspected gangsters and recovered two guns, police radio call and handcuffs in Ruai, Nairobi County.  A fourth suspect escaped with bullet wounds after a fierce shootout along the Eastern bypass.

Nairobi Police County Commander, Japheth Koome, said detectives have been trailing the gang after being involved in a spate of armed robberies in various parts of the city. Koome said on Monday, the gang hijacked a Japanese investor near Ruia and robbed him of over 300,000 shillings before dumping him near the Thika Super Highway.

“The gangsters blocked his vehicle near Ruai trading centre while pretending to be police officers. They then bundled him in their car and drove towards Thika using the Eastern bypass. They dropped him near Thika Super Highway after robbing him of 315,000 shillings,” Mr Koome said.

He said detectives who have been trailing the gangsters spotted their vehicle along the bypass on Tuesday morning and a car chase ensued towards Thika Super Highway. The gangsters engaged the officers in a shootout and in the process three suspects were shot dead.

“The officers recovered the vehicle that we highly suspect was stolen, two guns, a police radio call and handcuffs. We are still looking for the fourth suspect who managed to escape with bullet wounds.”
