Police hunt for Migori maid accused of killing baby, poisoning two others

A baby died and two others are recuperating in hospital after they were allegedly poisoned by a maid in Migori County on Tuesday night.

The two aged 2 and 4 years were admitted to St. Joseph Omboo Mission Hospital alongside another maid, Mrs. Linda Endekwa, who was also poisoned.

According to Migori county police commander Joseph Nthenge, the child that succumbed on arrival to the hospital belonged to Mrs. Endekwa.

She was to relieve the suspect of her duties when the incident occurred, the police boss said.

”The other two children belonging to the suspect’s boss survived though still recuperating,” added Mr. Nthenge.

The suspect whose name is yet to be identified fled after the incident and police are hunting for her.

Mrs. Bertha Oluoch, the maids’ employer said she had just arrived from work when she found her two children complaining of stomach pains and vomiting.

She rushed them to the hospital where she found out that they had “developed complications after eating the evening meal which was prepared by the first maid who left hurriedly.”

Collins Mwanga, a clinical officer working at St.Joseph Omboo Mission hospital said there were traces of poison and another comprehensive test which will requires three days will reveal what they ingested.
