Police hunting for 5 Migori officials who escaped EACC arrest

Police in collaboration with detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) are pursuing five senior officials of the Migori County government over alleged fraudulent dealings.

The five officers are supposed to be arraigned in court on August 27 alongside six others from the same county who were charged on Thursday, August 16 for allegedly engaging in irregular tendering and procurement processes.

Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge said the five officers managed to escape the police trap early this week, but assured that they will be nabbed.

The six who have since been charged include Director in the Ministry of Agriculture Francisca Onyango, Director in the Education Ministry Lazarus Ogutu, Director in the Water Ministry Charles Wambora, Director in the Ministry of Public Service Tom Kwasi, County Accountant Collins Bala and a Mr. James Amenya.

They appeared before Justice Richard Odenyo on August 16 where they denied the charges and were released on Ksh.30, 000 cash bail each.

The 11 county government officers were members of the Migori County tender committee as at April 23 2014.

They are accused of willful failure to ensure that the procurement process for furniture at the governor’s official residence was carried out in compliance with the applicable procedure and regulations.
