Police impound ivory worth Ksh 2M in Kwale

Police have impounded 41.9 kg of ivory pieces with a street value of about 2 million shillings at a home in Msambweni, Kwale County.

Msambweni OCPD, Joseph Chebusit, says the elephant tusks were found in a woman’s house packaged in sacks after being cut into smaller pieces.

Chebusit says police have counted 88 pieces of elephant tusks but are yet to establish the sources and destination of the captured ivory pieces and are searching for suspects behind the ivory smuggling.

Investigations have since been launched.
