Police intercept home-made explosives
Administration police officers on Monday morning nabbed gadgets believed to be used in assembling Improvised Explosive Devices (IED’s) that were being ferried in a bus in Modika, Garissa County.
Senior superintendent of police Joshua Wambua confirmed the incident and said the gadgets which included old phones circuits were intercepted at Modika police barrier in a Nairobi bound bus coming from Wajir at around 1AM.
Wambua added that the conductor of the bus managed to escape but they are still following some leads including the mobile number on the consignment.
He warned that the crack-down will continue in order to nab terrorists going to Garissa and Nairobi to conduct terrorism after one person was arrested after he was found without valid identification travelling to Nairobi.
IED’s are improvised homemade bombs that are constructed by almost anything by anyone with explosive know how using any type of material and initiator attached to a detonating mechanism.
They are common with terrorist groups like Al Shabbab as they utilize commercial, military explosives, homemade explosives or ordnance components at hand.
