Police issue terror alert ahead of Ramadan

The National Police Service has issued a terror alert urging Kenyans to remain extra vigilant ahead of the holy month of Ramadan that begins next week Tuesday, May 15.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, police say intelligence reports indicate that terror groups including Somalia-based Al Shabaab are planing to stage attacks during Ramadan.

“As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, terror groups have issued alerts urging their members to step up attacks during this period. The main terror groups including ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Al Shabaab have issued ‘fatwas’ calling for increased attacks during the holy month,” reads the statement.

“We are therefore urging members of the public to remain on high alert and be extra vigilant especially in populated public places including hotels, churches, bus stages and schools.”

Police, however, assured the public that security agencies remain vigilant and are monitoring activities across the border with Somalia to thwart any attempts by terror groups to launch attacks in the country.

At the same time, police urged the public to report any suspicious individuals spotted anywhere in the country or along the border.
