Police: JKIA out of bounds to NASA supporters planning to receive Raila

NASA’s plan to marshal one million of its supporters to march to the airport to welcome Raila Odinga back into the country has hit a road block.

Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet has warned that Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is out of bounds for NASA supporters planning to receive opposition leader Mr. Odinga who is expected to jet back into the country from the United Kingdom on Friday, November 17.

The former Prime Minister had travelled abroad to lobby for electoral reforms in the country.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Wednesday, Boinnet also warned that organisers of any rally or procession must comply with the Public Order Act (2016).

“The attention of the police has been drawn to reports that some politicians are mobilising crowds to march to JKIA to receive Hon. Raila Odinga. JKIA is a protected area hence access is open to bonafide travelers and all others with legitimate business at the airport who must at all times be subjected to the standard security procedures,” the statement reads.

The police boss further said that persons without valid reasons to access the airport will be denied entry.

“It is therefore not advisable to mobilise huge crowds to travel to the facility (JKIA) as it risks jeopardising the safety of air operators, passengers and other airport users,” read the statement.
