Police launch investigations into Sh6m theft at L. Nakuru National Park

Detectives in Nakuru have launched investigations into a Sunday night break-in at the Lake Nakuru National Park where Sh6 million was reportedly stolen.

Confirming the incident, Park Warden Dickson Ritan said no arrests have been made in connection with the break-in, but declined to disclose more details regarding the theft.

Ritan said police had taken up the matter and investigations were on going.

Early today (Tuesday) detectives visited the park’s cash office where they took photographs of the crime scene.

During their investigations they found that a safe that contained the stolen cash was damaged and a window through which the thugs are believed to have used to gain entry into the cash office had also broken.

Earlier, senior Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers led by Central Rift Assistant Director George Osuri held a closed-door meeting for more than two hours, ostensibly to discuss the incident.

The 188 square-kilometre park is surrounded by an electric fence and two armed rangers guard the gate around the clock.
