Police launch manhunt for hit-and-run driver

A 34-year-old man is recuperating at Embu Level Five Hospital after he was hit by a lorry at Mutunduri Market along the Embu-Meru Highway.

David Muriuki Njue was walking along the road when the lorry veered off the road after losing control, knocked him and sped away.

Confirming the incident, Embu Traffic Commandant John Lugula said other pedestrians tried unsuccessfully to stop the lorry but the driver sped off, leaving a critically injured Njue by the roadside.

Lugula said that the victim was rushed to Embu Level Five Hospital in critical condition after suffering head injuries and multiple fractures on both legs.

The traffic boss added that the victim, whose condition could worsen, was scheduled for a transfer to the Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment.

Police have launched a search for lorry and the driver who fled towards Meru after the incident.
