Police lorry intercepted ferrying aliens

Police in Kangeta, Meru County are holding a lorry belonging to the General Service unit (GSU) after it was intercepted allegedly ferrying aliens of Ethiopian origin.

The lorry, registration number GKB 631F, was intercepted at a roadblock by police following a tip off from the members of the public.

Meru County Deputy County Commissioner Apollo Okello said the lorry was ferrying 80 men of Ethiopian origin from Moyale to an unknown destination.

The 80 men – who could not speak English or Swahili – are being held at the Kangeta police station together with one of the officers arrested during the incident.

The arrested officer said that the lorry was heading to Meru town for service when they offered lift to the 80 arrested persons.

The driver of the lorry, a police officer work station is yet to be established, abandoned the vehicle and went into hiding.

Mr. Okello said the country cannot be secure if law enforcement officers are the same people breaking the rules they are supposed to uphold.
