Police nab Prado ferrying sandalwood worth KSh.850,000

Three people were on Friday arrested and 1.7 tons of sandalwood seized by a joint security team at Lpus area along Maralal-Wamba road in Samburu County.

While confirming the incident via phone call, Samburu County Police Commander Samson Ogello said that the sandalwood worth Sh850,000 was being transported in two vehicles.

“While working with rangers and officers from Kenya Wild Life Service (KWS), police officers intercepted a Toyota land cruiser vehicle of registration number KCU 288 H which was loaded with 1.2 tons of sandalwood and a Mitsubishi Pajero of registration number KAN 158 L which had been loaded with 500kgs of sandalwood,” he said.

The three suspects who had occupied the two vehicles are currently detained at the Wamba police station

In late January, a man was arrested at Suguta Marmar area in Samburu central while transporting sandalwood worth KSh2.5milion in a Toyota Prado .

Samburu County Commissioner John Korir has urged residents to work with government t in protecting endangered species of trees, among them sandalwood.
