Police officer arraigned for assaulting three people at Kirinyaga bar

A police constable accused of assaulting three people at Kiamutugu trading center in Kirinyaga County was on Monday arraigned at the Gichugu Law Courts.

Appearing before Resident Magistrate Gweno Odhiambo, Constable Gilbert Andika was charged with three counts of assaulting Alexander Muriuki Ireri, Joseph Gichobi Wangui and Ejudeo Njeru Ndiga on June 7, 2019 occasioning them bodily harm.

He denied the charges and released on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000 or Ksh. 300,000 bond with a  surety of a similar amount.

The accused was also warned against interfering with the case or intimidating the witnesses.

The families of the three victims were represented by lawyer Robert Gicimu Githinji who is also the Gichugu Constituency Member of Parliament.

The case will be mentioned on June 24, 2019.
