Police officer arrested over prisoners daring escape from cell in Kirinyaga

A police officer has been arrested over the suspicion of aiding four suspects who escaped from the Sagana Police station in Kirinyaga on Saturday morning.

Mwea west sub county police commander Abdillahi Adan Alio said the officer was missing from duty under mysterious circumstances on shortly before the four broke out.

“The officer left his docket unmanned and later claimed that he had been taken ill and was in hospital, he returned at 9a.m on Saturday,” Alio said.

The suspects were set to be arraigned at the Baricho law courts over a slew of daring robberies at M-pesa shops across Muranga and Kirinyaga counties.

In a daring incident however, the four escaped from the cells after cutting through the metal grills with a hacksaw.

The four suspects; Willis Githuku, Martin Ndung’u, Charles Mwangi and Julius Murigi had been under investigation prior to the daring cell-break.

Detectives handling the case had asked the Baricho Caw Court to hold the suspects for 14 days to allow sleuths gather more evidence for their prosecution.
