Police officer attacked, robbed of his gun in Kisumu

An Administration Police Officer is nursing injuries at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referal Hospital after he was attacked on Sunday evening at Kibos area in Kisumu East sub-county.

The officer, who was manning the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) offices, is said to have been robbed of his AK47 rifle during the attack.

According to a fellow officer who requested anonymity, the attack occurred at around 8.30pm, only a few moments after the officer and his colleague had reported to work at the KEBS premises.

The officer was reportedly hit on the head and back several times before his rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition, phone and wallet were taken away.

Officers who arrived at the scene found the officer lying unconscious in a pool of blood and rushed him to hospital.

Kisumu County Police Commander Job Boronjo and his Administration Police counterpart Joseph Kigen are yet to comment on the incident.
