Police officer charged with defiling a minor in Muranga

A police officer attached to Murang’a Police Station has on Tuesday been charged with defiling a minor.

The officer, Laban Maina Njogu, who is accused of defiling a 13-year-old girl in the cells at the Murang’a Police Station on September 30, was charged with two counts, defiling a minor and an indecent act.

Appearing before Murang’a Chief Magistrate Margaret Wachira, Constable Njogu denied the two count leveled against him and his bond ruling is set for Wednesday, October 11.

Initial arrest

The officer had been remanded at Maragua Police Station on Friday  after state counsel Solomon Njeru applied for more time for the prosecution to complete investigations following his arrest.

The accused did not object to the application but asked the court to release him on bond, an application that was also rejected by the court.

The court is now expected to rule tomorrow on whether the officer will remain in police custody or be released on bond.
