Police officer dies while drinking at bar in Muranga

Revelers at a bar in Mathioya Constituency, Murang’a County, were Sunday left in shock after a police officer died at the entertainment joint.

The officer, who was of the sergeant rank, is reported to have walked into the bar alone at around 4pm and asked for a beer.

According to the locals who were at the bar, the officer had barely finished his first glass before he slumped on the table as if he was just sleeping.

Oblivious of the officer’s situation, the revelers allowed him to sleep for a while but after around 20 minutes they decided to wake him up.

It is then that they realised he was unconscious and called in a medical officer from a nearby chemist who confirmed the officer had passed on.

Confirming the incident, Mathioya Assistant County Commissioner Jamleck Mbumba said investigations are underway to establish what caused the officer’s death.

The officer’s body was taken to Kiria-ini Mission Hospital morgue pending postmortem.
