Police officer fined Ksh.700K over bribery at Nairobi Railways bus terminus

A court has slapped police constable Charles Mbiti with a Ksh.700,000 fine or two-year imprisonment for soliciting for bribes.

In a tweet by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the officer was arrested following numerous complaints filed by members of the public over his actions at the Nairobi Railways bus terminus.

The anti-graft body now says Mbiti’s case was successfully investigated and the officer arraigned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.

This comes a day after yet another police officer was arrested by Flying Squad detectives for allegedly stealing Ksh.800,000 from a Mali national.

In a complaint lodged at DCI offices by Bathily Abdoulaye, four police officers from Nairobi Area command  raided his Kilimani residence on 15/09/2018 and arrested him.

During the arrest, Abdoulaye says that the officers ransacked his house and took 8,000 US Dollars, Ksh.83,000, 3 Rolex watches each valued at 15,000 US Dollars, his passport and also transferred Ksh.30,000 from his Mobile phone number to another Mobile phone number.

The report further indicated how the police officers took him to Central Police Station but later released him without official booking in the Occurrence Book.
