Panic gripped Kagio Police Station in Kirinyaga after an officer shot himself in the head on Saturday morning.

According to Ndia OCPD Sicily Gatiti, colleagues rushed the officer to Kagio Nursing Home Hospital where he died on arrival.

Market traders who operate near the station were forced to flee when they heard the sound of gunshots rent the air during the 9:30am incident.

It still remains unclear as to what could have led the officer to kill himself.
