Police officer killed by mob in Siaya

An Administration Police officer in Bondo town, Siaya was on Monday night lynched by irate boda boda operators after he was allegedly mistaken for a motorcycle thief.

Rodgers Adianya, a constable at Nyang’oma Kogelo AP camp, met his death when the furious operators pounced on him with kicks and blows, killing him instantly.

According to Bondo Community Policing Committee Chairperson Juma Abuko, the officer had boarded a motorbike from Nyang’oma Kogelo to Bondo on Monday evening, unaware that his transporter was a suspected motorcycle thief.

Trouble started when the operators gave chase but the rider and his passenger were forced to seek refuge at Bondo police station. Thinking all was safe, the officer left the station for his home in Siaya and boarded a matatu at around 8pm.

Unfortunately for him, the irate mob were on his trail and waylaid the vehicle, singled him out and descended on him with his pleas that he was innocent falling on deaf ears.

Confirming the incident, Bondo OCPD Paul Kiarie noted that the body of the officer was moved to Bondo hospital mortuary as investigations into the matter commenced.

The boda boda operator hired by the AP is being held at the police station to assist with investigations.
