Police officer rehabilitating drunkards

A junior police officer in Naivasha has now come to the rescue of tens of alcoholics.

The administration police officer in the rank of corporal has moved in to counsel and offer shelter to the over 50 youths as part of rehabilitation in line with the ongoing illicit brews crackdown.

This came as it emerged that some of the youth from Karati village, a few kilometers from Naivasha town, were suffering from serious withdrawal symptoms.

According to the officer, Paul Macharia Konje, the fight against the illicit brew cannot just end at discarding the brews and closing the factories involved in the production.

Konje, who is also a pastor at Victory World Outreach church, noted that two of the youth had been admitted in hospital suffering from withdrawal symptoms.

He thanked the Head of State for the directive and called on well wishers to come to the aid the youth who are recovering, noting that many were orphans and did not have homes.

Malewa East MCA John Chegenow says they are working on a kitty through the county government that will support the recovering addicts.

Chegenow further appealed to NYS programme to consider those who are past the age of 35 years.

The MCA also noted that before the directive, it was very hard to get youths to work on various development projects as they were weak and always drunk.
