Two police officers believed to be part of a car theft syndicate were on Wednesday arrested by detectives in Narok County after evading arrest.

Narok County Commissioner George Natembeya said the suspects were found with an assortment of items among them a saloon car, vehicle number plates, a police radio call, security car siren, handcuffs, a bullet, eight mobile phones and fake Ksh.63,000 notes .

The two were identified as Police Constable Peter Mutuku Kiio and General Service Unit officer Philemon Cheruiyot Chepkwony who had been working in Nairobi.

Mr. Natembeya said also in custody are three county officers, a driver, his conductor and a watchman linked to the stealing of a water bowser belonging to the Narok county government.

The water truck, which was tracked to a garage in Nairobi, had been modified into sand transporter. Mechanics and workers at the garage where the water bowser was found were also arrested.

Speaking during a display of the stolen items, the commissioner said the arrested police officers had evaded a rest for a long time.
