Police ready for August 8 polls – CS Matiang’i

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, says that security agencies are adequately prepared ahead of the August 8 polls and re-assured Kenyans of the government’s commitment to ensure peaceful polls.

Speaking during the launch of an MI7 helicopter at Wilson Airport Tuesday, Matiang’i said that the government is prepared to support the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to make sure that the country is secure on polls day.

“The National Police Service now has a capacity of 4 choppers which will help our servicemen navigate the country with the main of maintaining peace, we have all counties under surveillance and we care confident that Kenyans will cast their ballot peacefully,” said the CS.

The CS further exuded confidence that policemen deployed to different parts of the country are well trained and the police personnel-population ratio is good enough to secure the country.

“As a government we will continue to support the police unit and we have a security plan and I can confidently say we are prepared for the election. Matiang’i said.

The Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinett, who flanked Matiang’i at the launch added that said that three more choppers will be procured by the end of the year to bolster security in the country.
