Police recover fake dollars worth millions in Kirinyaga

Police in Kirinyaga County have seized fake dollar bills worth millions of shillings along River Thiba in Mwea East.
According to the area OCPD Dorothy Gaitenga, members of the public noticed a safe in which the fake money was hidden and notified police.
The OCPD suspects that the money was to be exchanged with genuine currencies and some residents made away with part of the money before police arrived at the scene.
She said no arrests have been made yet but investigations are underway.
The police boss urged residents who may have stolen part of the money to surrender it to the police to avoid circulation which she said could have negative effects on the economy of the region.
Two days ago, a 25-year old woman was arrested in the neighboring Murang’a County and charged for being in possession of Ksh.2.8 million in fake Kenyan currency.
And in Homa Bay last month, two men were seized with fake currency notes worth Ksh. 1.34million.
