The head of anti narcotic police unit Hamisi Masa says the heroin weighing 341 kilogrammes was found hidden under the reserve oil tanks of the vessel.

Masa also adds that they have also recovered heroin mixed with water and diesel inside the vessel.

Nine foreign sailors who were found inside the vessel have already been charged in Mombasa with trafficking heroin worth 2.9 million shillings.

A tenth sailor died in mysterious circumstances after the vessel was seized by Kenya Navy.

The discovery comes barely two weeks after police discovered a body and five kilograms of a substance believed to be heroin in the same ship.

Kenya Navy officers seized the vessel off the Kenyan coastal in Lamu following a tip-off from Interpol that it was smuggling narcotic drugs in the Indian Ocean.

The ship had left Pakistan and had berthed in Mogadishu, Somalia from where they were sailing to Kenya.

The incident comes barely two months after a boat was captured by Australian naval forces off the Kenyan coast with heroin worth 25 billion shillings which was destroyed.
