Police release list of suspects behind Mandera bus attack

The Office of the Inspector General (IG) on Wednesday released a list of four prime suspects believed to be behind the December 21st Mandera bus attack.

In a circular distributed to newsrooms, the IG’s office revealed that the names of the four terror suspects are Mohamed Osman Ailow alias Issack Okola, Abdullahi Dimbil, Mohamed Ahmed Farah and Abukar Mohamed Yunis.

Dimbil, 31, previously worked as a madrassa teacher in Kutulo before joining the Al-Shabaab terror cell. Security agents suspect that he may be hiding with other militants, all of whom are armed and dangerous.

27-year-old Farah also worked as a madrassa teacher, and he has been instrumental in the recruitment of young people to the terror group.

Okola, 44, comes from Elawak area and walks with a limp on his right leg. 32-year-old Yunis was madrassa teacher in Riba, and police suspect that he has gone into hiding in North Eastern Kenya.

According to the police, the four are the masterminds of the attack that claimed two lives, injuring several others. Though the attackers succeeded in killing two individuals, the impact of their attack was mitigated by Muslim faithfuls shielded their Christian colleagues.

Sources within the police also revealed that the four suspects, all of whom come from North Eastern Kenya, were not working alone. They were partnering closely with four Somalia-based terrorists: Mohamud Ali alias Gamedhere, Abdikarim Osman Jalaow alias Mustafa Ato, and Mohamed Abdi Musa alias Habil Al-Somali.

Police are now asking for information from the public about the whereabouts of these four suspects, and they have offered a Ksh2, 000, 000 million ransom to the person/persons who will give information that will lead the arrest of the four and their accomplices.

Preventing terror at the Coast

Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) and the General Service Unit’s Recce Squad  foiled a terror attack on Tuesday night after they busted 5 terrorists in Mombasa.

The joint unit kicked off a raid in the coastal city’s Majengo slums on Monday night, arresting one suspect with four others managing to escape.

During the raid, police recovered two assault rifles, a G3 and an M16 rifle, 345 bullets and 15 mobile phones.

Intelligence reports indicated that the five, who are believed to be part of a gang behind past terrorist attacks in Lamu and Mombasa, were at an advanced stage of planning another attack.

Security agents believe that the four, who all come from North Eastern Kenya, sneaked into Mombasa last week.
