Police rescue 3 abducted kids, say they were found in Tanzania

Three children, who were abducted from the home of Homa Bay County Secretary Isaiah Ogwe on Saturday, have been rescued by police.

The three, Phoebe Akinyi (11), Isaiah Ogwe Junior (7) and Risper Ogwe (3), were found in Roria District, Tanzania.

Though police officers are yet to release full information about the rescue, sources indicate that they acted in information from one of the kidnappers.

Kidnappers had abducted the children from their family home in Marindi, Homa Bay when their mother, Roseanne Ogwe, had left to attend a chama meeting.

Speaking to members of the press, Mrs Ogwe said that she arrived home to find that her children were missing. They were scheduled to go visit their grandmother, who lives in the same region, but the plan was cut short by her children’s disappearance.

On his part, the County Secretary said that he first heard of the kidnapping when the culprits contacted him on his cell phone.

Ogwe, who reported the matter to the police, said that the abductors demanded for a ransom of Ksh6 million. Should he fail to pay up, they threatened to kill his three children.

Communication between them was cut off when the kidnappers switched off their phone on Saturday afternoon.
