Police reservist killed in suspected Al Shabaab attack

One Kenya Police Reservist has died following an attack by suspected al Shabaab militants in Mandera Town.

The militants are reported to have struck at 3am and hurled explosives at an Equity Bank and two hotels in Mandera Town, partially destroying the bank and killing the KPR officer.

Police suspect the attack was conducted by local al Shabaab sympathizers, with visible bullet marks spotted on the walls of Mandera Deputy Governor Omar Mohamed Maalim’s house.

Kenya Defence Force officers have, however, sealed off the bank, Jabane Hotel, and a nearby food kiosk as they comb the area in case there are explosives planted there as investigations are launched into the raid.
