Police reservists allegedly kill two in Bura

Two people have been killed by suspected Kenya Police Reservists in Bisan Hargeisa in Bura Constituency, Tana River County in an incident locals claim may be linked to last year’s killing of over 100 camels in the area.

Issa Ali, a local veterinary officer was killed alongside Bisahr Hillow, a bodaboda rider while on their way to attend to some sick camels in the area.

According to a herder, the two were accosted by the suspected reservists in police uniforms from neighbouring Mwingi Sub-County, after which an argument ensued between the vet doctor and suspects, before they shot him at close range and fled on foot.

Another witness says the vet’s body also had deep panga cuts on his legs, an indication that he might have been tortured before he was killed.

Area MP Ali Wario says the torture of the vet is a clear indication that the killers knew him and were after his life.

Wario has now urged the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to ensure a speedy probe into the incident to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.
