Police reveal final moments of man who died from coronavirus in Siaya

A patient in Siaya County who died after contracting coronavirus had travelled from Mombasa on April 5, police said.

A police report revealed that the 59-year-old man worked at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and had travelled with his wife and two daughters.

“On April 5, he slept in Nairobi. On April 6 he was involved in a non-injury accident at Awasi market and slept in Kisumu,” the report reads.

The next day, he is said to have proceeded to Ukwala using his brother’s vehicle and remained indoors after the trip.

Police in Siaya further said that he developed a cough on April 10 and was rushed to Matibabu Foundation Private Hospital.

However, he was pronounced dead the same day at around 7pm.

Samples taken to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in Kisumu on April 11 tested positive for coronavirus.

Police then directed that the body be disinfected and buried; all contacts be traced and put in mandatory quarantine at an isolation centre in Siaya.
