Police seize gambling machines in Kirinyaga

Police officers in Mwea,  Kirinyaga county seized at least 26 gambling machines on Thursday, in an operation seeking to wipe out illegal gambling from the region.

Speaking after the the raid, Deputy county commissioner Geoffrey Targon insisted that gambling remains illegal following a ban that was enforced in Mwea after children were found skipping school to engage in the activity.

“We cannot have a society where everyone gambles, people should go to work and rid the society of these tendencies,”  said Targon.

Gambling has reportedly grown into an economic activity in Mwea town to a point of manufacturing gambling machines at a factory in  Ngurubani town in Mwea.

The Deputy Commissioner has now promised to continue with the crackdown and rid off all the gambling machines that have plagued his county.

The County boss further urged parents to caution their children against spending 24 hours gambling in bars and shops.
