Police seize Ivory worth Sh 5.8 million in Chogoria

Police on Tuesday seized 14 pieces of ivory weighing 58 kilograms valued at Ksh 5.8 million in Chogioria in Maara district.

Confirming the incident, Maara district OCPD Johnstone Kabusia said that police in conjunction with Kenya Wildlife Service officers cornered three suspects who were holed in a hotel in Chogoria town where they are alleged to have been waiting for the buyers to transact the business.

Mt Kenya National Park, Chogoria station, Henry Kirinyet said that it was discouraging for seven elephants to have been killed in a bid to acquire the ivory.

Kirinyet issued a stern warning to poachers and pledged to continue with the fight against poaching as well as monitor the elephants to shield them from these poachers.

The suspects are currently being held at Chogoria Police Station awaiting to be arraigned in Chuka court on Wednesday.
