Police seize suspected illegally imported sugar in Siaya
Police in Siaya on Tuesday impounded sugar suspected to have been illegally imported from Uganda.
Siaya Sub-county Police Commander Justus Kucha said officers acting on a tip-off raided a shop where they found the sugar worth over Ksh.300,000 packed in 50kg and 25 kg bags.
The police boss said it is believed the sugar was smuggled into the country from the neighboring country, adding that one suspect was arrested and detained at Siaya Police Station as investigations continue.
Mr. Kucha said the owner of the sugar would only be pardoned if he produced legal import documents, failure to which the goods would be treated as contraband and the suspect arraigned.
