Police spokesman Charles Owino condemns Eastleigh shooting

Police Spokesman Charles Owino has condemned the video doing rounds in social media of police shooting a civilian in cold blood.Speaking in Ugenya on Saturday, the police spokesman said he could not give a conclusive statement about the incident as the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has ordered a probe into the matter.

Speaking in Ugenya on Saturday, the police spokesman said he could not give a conclusive statement about the incident as the Inspector General of Police Joseph Bonnet has ordered a probe into the matter.

Mr Owino noted that should the police be found guilty after investigations they would have to deal with the consequences of the actions individually.

“We have seen what has happened in Eastleigh. Life is sacred and you can’t play around with. The life of every individual is important and we cannot allow one lose life unfairly,” he said.

He noted that they have reliable information that three people were involved in the shoot out and that they were robbers, as confirmed by the Eastleigh community.

He, however, explained that it was unfair for an individual to lose their life in that manner even if they were robbers.

He claimed eyewitnesses have told the police that what is happening in the video could be untrue.

“In the police service we don’t take collective responsibility because a policeman makes his/her own decision. We will be able to make a decision after a conclusive probe,” he noted.
