Police statement on grenade attack at Kalonzos home

Police have confirmed that a grenade attack occurred at the home of NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday at 1.15am.

Addressing the media at Musyoka’s Karen residence, police spokesperson Charles Owino said after visiting the scene of crime, they recovered a live bullet and a stun grenade which he said is non-lethal.

“Kalonzo called our emergency line saying his home was under attack we mobilised our officers from Nairobi area and Hardy police station to visit the scene. The report we got is that two vehicles approached his home at around 1.15am. Fortunately, there were three guards from Cobra security company and their patrol car right outside his compound. Upon checking, the security officers recovered a pin for a grenade and a live bullet,” said Owino.

He added: “We have seen where the hand grenade exploded. Fortunately, it was a stun hand grenade which is not meant to harm but it just gives a loud bang and is meant to scare. This is different from the disintegrating hand grenade which normally has pellets that can kill you.”

Owino further said they had obtained crucial leads from CCTV camera’s within the home, urging urged members of the public not to politicize the matter but allow police time to investigate the incident.

Earlier, National Super Alliance leaders said they fear for their lives following the attack on  Musyoka’s home.

NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula termed the attack as an act of intimidation, after the government allegedly withdrew the opposition leaders’ security detail.

“We want all Kenyans to know that the leadership on NASA is thoroughly exposed because we have no security and if this is what the State wants to do to bring us to what they think are our knees… Our knees will not bend,” he said at Musyoka’s Karen Home Wednesday morning.

Karen OCPD Cunningham Suiyanka said police will issue a comprehensive statement once investigations are complete.
