Police thwart attack by former RECCE squad officer

Police in Ruiru, Kiambu County thwarted a planned attack by a former RECCE unit squad officer at the GSU headquarters on Thursday.

During the 2am police operation targeting the highly trained former RECCE unit squad officer, police recovered three AK 47 rifles and 178 bullets.

According to Police spokesman George Kinoti, the suspect, identified in police documents as Constable Eric Ngethe Kanyingi, is believed to be an Al Shabaab sympathizer and managed to escape leaving behind the weapons.

Kinoti told Citizen Digital that the manhunt for the suspect has been intensified.

The suspect resigned from his job in the elite squad in 2014.
