Police to provide security to lawyers during Monday’s protests

Police will provide security for planned protests by lawyers and activists tomorrow (Monday) over the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josphat Mwenda, and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri, government spokesman Eric Kiraithe has said.

Kiraithe’s statement followed a directive by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaiserry that the planned demonstrators be provided with adequate security to ensure they are peaceful.

Kiraithe noted that the government is keen on the rule of law and warned that those behind the incidents will be dealt with.

He insisted that the government does not support extrajudicial killings, and stated that the government condoles with families of the deceased.

Speaking separately at St Magdalene’s Catholic Church in Starehe, Nairobi, Jubilee leaders led by Kipchumba Murkomen condemned abduction and killing of the three and demanded swift action in the matter.

The leaders termed the murders extra-judicial killings, urging IG Boinett to ensure justice prevails.
