Policeman Shot Dead In Gangland Style Execution In Mombasa

According to witnesses the gunmen who were on a motorbike shot the police officer point blank along  the busy Haile Selassie avenue at around 9.30 pm.

Nothing was stolen from him and his AK-47 rifle was recovered at the scene.

The fallen officer was attached at the Central Police Station in Mombasa island and was previously transferred from the anti stock theft unit before moving to the coastal town station.

This comes after the Mombasa Urban Deputy Commander, Victor Ndumba was shot in  August in Tudor .

Ndumba who was accompanied by area OCPD Geoffrey Mayiek were pursuing armed robbers who eventually opened fire at them and managed to escape.

Mombasa County residents have since decried the state of insecurity in the region.

They are now urging the government to intervene and help beef up security in the area.

Mombasa County Commander Robert Kitur declined to comment on the matter and the body of the deceased has been moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary.
