Policewoman nursing bullet wounds after Kisumu gun drama

A police officer is nursing bullet injuries in a Kisumu hospital after she was shot on Wednesday morning.

Another officer was also admitted after he broke his leg while fleeing from the irate officers.

On Wednesday morning, detectives from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) busted police officers taking bribes.

A shootout ensued during the incident on the Kisumu-Kakemega road next to Mamboleo junction.

EACC Deputy Regional Manager Aura Chibole said five officers were caught taking bribes from motorists and have already been processed for further action.

Chibole said the officers will be released on police bond pending a review of their files by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before being arraigned in court.

Speaking at a joint presser alongside Nyanza police boss Dr Vincent Makhoha , Chibole said EACC shall continue with such sting operations to deter rampant reports of police officers soliciting bribes from motorists.

Dr Makhoha on his part said the officer who was shot on the thigh is in a stable condition adding that the shooting incident was a mishap.

He said the DCI ballistic experts are already probing the incident to identify who was behind the shooting adding that they will cooperate with EACC to keep up the fight against graft.
