Polio Vaccination To End

The vaccination is to take 5 days. It was launched on Saturday and will end on Wednesday.

Ministry of health principal secretary Fred Segor, on Saturday said that the activity was being up-scaled to door to door campaigns.

Apart from the polio vaccine the children are also given vitamin supplement.

On Saturday, Segor reiterated that the ministry was putting in place mechanisms in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to ensure that this requirement is adhered to.

The PS explained that the exercise will not be undertaken in North Eastern Kenya since the area was covered in December last year.

Ministry of health and Unicef Ambassador for fight against polio and former immediate senator Harold Kipchumba have asked Kenyans to take their children for the vaccine against the killer disease.

Harold Kipchumba warned that the disease kills or causes disability for those who survive.

Kipchumba who is a victim of polio said his dreams of being a pilot or military man was crushed due to the deadly disease that paralyzed his legs.

Ambassor Kipchumba said the disease paralyses the waist and children remain paralyzed for the rest of their lives.

Area District Public officer of Koibatek Dr.A Keah said the exercise would be complete by Wednesday.

Polio is a highly infectious viral disease.

It is one of the world’s most dangerous diseases affecting children.

 

The virus attacks the central nervous system.

 

Children under the age group no 5 years are most vulnerable.

 

Polio leads to permanent paralysis.

 

It can spread from person to person through food, water and the fecal-oral route
