Politician accused of grabbing disabled groups land

A Nakuru politician has been accused of grabbing a two and a half acre parcel of land from the Kenya Association of Physically Disabled Persons (APDK) who are now preparing a lawsuit against him.

APDK chairman, Fred Owako, said that the land located at a prime area along the Nakuru – Nyahururu road was legally acquired by the association in the year 1989.

“The officials have legal title deeds to the controversial land that is currently fenced by the politician,” said Owako.

He said the association’s attempt to reach out to relevant authorities in the Ministry of Lands to nullify ownership documents presented by the politician have been unsuccessful.

The members of the association now say they will stage a march to State House, Nairobi to pressure President Uhuru Kenyatta to push for the return of their land.

They say that they have a lease period of 99 years and expect to develop the land by establishing viable income generating activities to aid 1,500 members from the asset’s value in the face of rapid urban development of Nakuru town.
