Politician arraigned for trafficking bhang worth Ksh.260K

A former Embu County Assembly aspirant was on Thursday arraigned in court and charged with trafficking cannabis sativa (bhang) worth Ksh.260,000.

Dennis Mbae Mutegi who was contesting the Kirimari ward representative seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket denied the offense before Embu Law Courts Resident Magistrate Jean Ndengeri.

Mr. Mutegi was charged that on November 14, 2018 at Dallas Estate in Embu County, he was found trafficking cannabis sativa weighing 13 kilograms with a street value of Ksh.260,000 in contravention of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Control Act.

The ex-politician was arrested after police officers who have been trailing him for three months cornered him at his house in Dallas estate where, upon search of his Probox vehicle, the drugs were recovered.

He was released on a Ksh.300,000 bond with two sureties of a similar amount.

The case was set for mention on November 29 and hearing on December 13, 2018. The prosecution was also ordered to supply him with all the documentary evidence that will be used in the case.
