Uhuru lands in Nyanza with a bag of goodies

Politics of the handshake and unity dominated President Uhuru Kenyatta’s maiden tour of Luo Nyanza with opposition leader Raila Odinga saying the country is on a historical path to heal the rift of political divisions.

The ground zero of violent protests against President Kenyatta’s re-election shifted to a rapturous welcome of the President to Kisumu where leaders were also promised to cement the unity of purpose and crystallize the reconciliation of one time warring political factions.

“We are here to present to you the handshake,” said Mr. Odinga. (sisi tumeleta handshake).

“We are here to prove wrong those who are saying the handshake is not genuine. The ‘handshake’ is working and our responsibility, as leaders, is to unite Kenyans so as to develop the country,” said President Kenyatta.

The President delivered a bag of goodies to the region to open it up for business starting with the launch of the Ksh.655.9 million Ahero Interchange linking Kisumu to Kericho and Kisii counties.

The Head of State also commissioned the Kisumu- Kakamega road and officially opened the Ken Obura school further promising equal development across the country without regard to political leanings.

Jakom yuko kwa serikali na tutafanya ile inawezekana kuletea wananchi maendeleo,” said Kenyatta.

(Jakom (Chairman) is in government and we will do our best to bring development to our people)

The Head of State insisted his visit to the lake county of Kisumu was to launch development projects as well as prove that the handshake was working to unite Kenyans, entrench peace and spread development across the country.

He urged Kenyans to support the journey of preaching peace and unity that leaders have embarked on, saying the spirit of handshake will not stop in Kenya but spread to the whole of East Africa and across the African continent.
