Poll ranks Jubilee, CORD officials most corrupt

Research firm IPSOS Synovate has released a poll which names top officials in the Jubilee government and the opposition CORD in corruption.

The research findings, released on Wednesday, named suspended Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu as the most corrupt official with 50 per cent due to her alleged links to the Karen land saga.

Deputy President William Ruto was named second (31 per cent) for his alleged connections to Langata Road Primary School land case, the ‘hustler’s jet’ and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital sagas.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru was named third at 28 per cent due to her alleged connection to the National Youth Service (NYS) fraud claims while Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was named fourth most corrupt official and the most corrupt governor with 7 per cent.

Other officials on the list are suspended Transport CS Michael Kamau (7%), CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka (4%), President Uhuru Kenyatta (3%) and Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chair Issack Hassan (3%).

Siaya Senator James Orengo, former IEBC CEO James Oswago, suspended Energy CS Davis Chirchir, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and suspended Labour CS Kazungu Kambi also feature on the list, all with 2 per cent.

Most of the officials named in the poll have in several occasions denied the corruption allegations levelled against them with some of the cases touching on suspended Cabinet Secretaries currently in court.

The poll was conducted between 30th July and 9th August 2015 with 2,002 respondents in 41 counties being interviewed.

The margin-of-error attributed to sampling and other random effects is + or – 2.2 with a 95% confidence level.
