Polls date will not be pushed ahead DP Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto has moved to assure the country that next year’s General Election date will not be interfered with.

Ruto told the congregation at Africa Gospel Church in Keringet, Nakuru County, where he attended the Sunday service, that 2017 polls will be held on August 8, as prescribed by the constitution.

He told off leaders propagating rumours that the elections will be pushed ahead saying that they are panicking since they have not yet put their houses in order.

“Those propagating rumours that the polls will be pushed forward are daydreaming,” Ruto said.

Amani National Congress Party leader Musalia Mudavadi was quoted in some sections of the media on Saturday alleging a plot by the government to tamper will the election timelines.

Mudavadi pointed at the decision by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Selection panel to cancel interviews for the position of chairperson and call for fresh applications, terming the action as a government plan to change the elections date.

The deputy president said that the government has made all the necessary arrangements to ensure the polls will proceed as stipulated.

At the same time, Ruto urged leaders seeking elective posts to refrain from using inflammatory remarks that may cause hatred among Kenyans.

“We can not allow anybody to use hateful politics, divisive politics, violent politics. Everybody should engage Kenyans in a respectable way and ask them to vote him/her, Kenyans are capable of choosing their leaders,” the deputy president said.

Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, who had accompanied the deputy president at the service, congratulated DP Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta for setting up Jubilee party campaign teams across the country.

Mbugua expressed confidence in the team selected for Nakuru County saying: “We, the Nakuru residents, have embraced the arrangements you and the president made to coordinate our party and we are in full support of the team”.
