Poor Busia-Malaba road may ‘deny Uhuru August victory’

Residents of Teso South constituency want the Jubilee administration to fasten the process of constructing the Busia-Malaba Highway before the August polls, failure to which they have threatened to vote out President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Transport has been paralyzed along the highway due to the heavy downpour that has rendered most parts of the roads impassable.

“Motorists and pedestrians are suffering. Vehicles are stuck all over the road and the government is doing nothing, we will vote Jubilee out if the road is not done by August,” said one of the residents.

President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the construction work on the road linking the two border towns of Busia and Malaba on December 16, 2016.

According to the residents, since then not much has been achieved and the contractor has even failed to open up a makeshift road.

“Today morning I was carrying my fish going to the market, but because of the poor state of this road, all my fish fell. We are accustomed to every new administration constructing this road haphazardly for the purposes of wooing us to vote for them again. In fact, it has become a campaign road,” another resident lamented.
