Pope Francis prays for Kenya ahead of October 26 election

Pope Francis on Sunday, October 22, prayed for Kenya urging political players to engage in dialogue and break the election stalemate for the sake of peace.

During prayers at the St.Peter’s Square in Vatican City, Pope Francis told the gathered pilgrims to pray for peace in the world and more specifically Kenya.

“I ask you to join my prayer for peace in the world. I am paying close attention in these days to Kenya, which I visited in 2015, and for which I pray that the whole country might be able to face the current difficulties in a climate of constructive dialogue, having at heart the search for the common good,” Pope Francis told faithful who had gathered for the Sunday Angelus prayer.

The Holy Father’s message came at a time Kenya is going through a period of political turmoil occasioned by the nullification of a presidential election by the Supreme Court.

The country is supposed to go back to the polls in three days time, but it remains unclear whether or not the election will take place.

The electoral commission and the Jubilee government have maintained that the polls will go on as planned while opposition leaders have vowed to stop elections in NASA heartlands.

During his visit to Kenya in November 2015, Pope Francis spread a message anchored on peace and humility.
